Dawn Ziolkowski (1945 ~ 2015) It is with heavy hearts we announce Dawn Ziolkowski, eldest daughter of sculptor Korczak and his wife Ruth, lost a six-year battle with cancer earlier this year. Dawn and her siblings grew up at the Crazy Horse Memorial in the Black Hills of South Dakota. She was devoted to continuing her parent’s legacy and worked at the memorial site in several different capacities, even helping to continue her mother’s tradition of including personal handwritten notes on every official response letter to donors. Dawn is survived by her son Jason Hendrickson of Phoenix, Arizona, and his wife Erin. She is also survived by eight brothers and sisters - John (Val), Adam, Jadwiga, Casimir (Deiadra), Mark (Geney), Joel (Diana), Monique, and Marinka, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Anne Ziolkowski Christenson. A memorial has been established with the Crazy Horse Memorial Foundation. Per Dawn’s wishes, donations will be used to further the work on the mountain carving. In Memoriam Dr. Zbigniew “Ziggy” Hladysz (1947 ~ 2015) Dr. Zbigniew “Ziggy” Hladysz, PhD passed away August 12, 2015. He was born in Mikolow, Poland, where he spent his formative years and graduated from Politechnika Slaska (Engineering University) with a Masters Degree in Mining Engineering. He worked at the Glowny Institut Gornictwa (Central Mining Institute) in Katowice, where he obtained his doctorate degree in rock mechanics. In 1981, he decided to immigrate to the United States with his wife and son. Later that year, he was offered a professorship at the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology where he worked as an educator until 2014 sharing his knowledge and experience with the next generation of young engineers, leaving an indelible mark on hundreds of students. He is survived by his wife Halina, son Jake, and two grandchildren Arek and Alissa. Amemorial has been established to benefit the skateboard park in Rapid City, South Dakota. The management and staff of WorldWide Drilling Resource ® extend sincere condolences to Ziggy’s family and friends. Tom Field (1940 ~ 2015) Tom Field was born May 3, 1940, in Langdon, North Dakota, and showed an early penchant for mechanics and engineering. He owned Coast to Coast Hardware in Langdon, and later moved with his family to Miles City, Montana, where he started business with F & R Construction. He began working for Roundup Powder Company in 1987 as an explosives engineer and continued working as an explosives engineer with ICI, then Nelson Brothers Mining Services until his retirement. Tom married his wife Beth in 1990. Together they lived life to the fullest, spending their free time camping and traveling to new destinations. On a recent adventure to Oregon (a place called Lost Beach) Tom told Beth with a wink, “We found it, it’s not lost anymore.” Tom and Beth loved finding new, quiet places together, spending hours exploring in the sun. Even during the rainstorms, Tomwould look at Beth, smile, and remind her they “made their own sunshine.” He is survived by his wife; brother Lorne (Gertie); daughter Michelle (Vince and three granddaughters); son Todd Field (Kim and two granddaughters); Cindy, mother of Michelle and Todd; son Reno (Lisa and two granddaughters); son Alex (three grandchildren); and daughter Misty (one grandson). Tom also leaves behind many other family members. Tomalways said, “I never met a stranger.” Tom has family and friends from Alaska to Florida, “from sea to shining sea” and beyond.
