Drilling & Blasting at Fleming College: 37 Years of Education by Amy White, Associate Editor WorldWide Drilling Resource ® Gord Bailey is a professor for the Resources Dr i l l i ng and Bl as t i ng program at Fleming College’s School of Environmental & Natural Resource Sciences in Lindsay, Ontario, Canada. He’s also an all-around terrific guy we hold in high regard here at WWDR . At the Ontario Ground Water Association’s (OGWA’s) Conference this year, Gord brought members up to speed on the latest happenings at Fleming College. The school ’s dri l l ing and blasting program is celebrating it’s 37 th anniversary this year. Adding to the excitement, several new continuing education courses are being offered, including Drilling and Sampling Systems and Welding Fundamentals. Along with continuing education options, the college also offers customized training to the industry. For the last 18 years, Fleming College has been involved in an annual drilling seminar in Oklahoma. This year, the learning tradi t ion cont inued wi th 53 students taking part in the course. Gord said the student demographic is changing at Fleming College as more inter- national students recognize the value of specialized training in the fields of drilling and blasting. Students from different coun- tries have much to offer, and bring a great deal of value to the course. The college has been going the extra mile to support educational drilling programs across the globe. For example, a Fleming representative traveled to China last year to help a school get its drilling program off the ground. Instructors at Fleming College continue encouraging students to think outside the box. As the only college program in Canada offering drilling and blasting training - and the only college in the world providing training in so many different types of drilling - the school opens doors to remarkable opportunities and virtually endless options for employment upon graduation. WWDR applauds Fleming College on their latest mi lestone - nearly four decades of preparing drilling professionals for success. Keep up the good work!
