Moroccan Miners Tour U.S. Operations Adapted from a Press Release by the Colorado School of Mines Colorado School of Mines (CSM) Office of Special Programs and Continuing Education (SPACE) hosted 15 mining professionals from Office Chérifien des Phosphates (OCP) Group of Morocco during a weeklong tour of mining operations in Colorado and Wyoming. Adjunct Professor William Wilson of the Mining Engineering Department guided the tour. The group fromOCP toured different mining op- erations in both states to ex- amine a wide range of mining and processing techniques. They hope to take the expe- riences from these locations back to Morocco to help op- timize their own phosphate mining operations. “Course participants that took the mine tour felt the vis- its to the underground, sur- face mines, and to CSM mining laboratories greatly reenforced much of the course content,” Wilson said. “Several participants noted they took away a greater appreciation of common experiences and problems among large mining companies, and discovered a number of topics related to possible applied research between OCP and CSM.” Over the past year, SPACE and CSM faculty have delivered professional courses in geology, mining, processing, and sustainability to OCP employees, senior managers, and technical staff in Morocco. This is an ongoing collaboration between the school and Moroccan phosphate miners. !+34# 0/4#/# 2 #,'23(+'-& ((+%' 0& '/&'230/ 2#/ '/&'230/ $+4%0+/%20& *04.#+- %0. 777 $+4%0+/% 53 '7 3'& +43 0-' 1'/'23 2#) +43 "+/)3 #..'23 #..'2 +43 +6'24'23 ' 4+11+/) 4#$+-+8'23 -#7 +43 +1' "+1'3 0-4 0/ ''4* 5$3 35 WorldWide Drilling Resource ® MARCH 2016
