Water for Life International by Tim Rasmussen “Too much is always enough.” I have noticed the truth of this state- ment many times. usually, I think about it when I have gone to the store to get some material for a project and considering how much of whatever it is I need to buy. The memory of having to go back to town for just one more brick or board is clear enough to remind me to buy a little extra just to be sure I have enough. This season, Water for life (WFl) is sending two containers, as well as importing a container of literature for a Christian publisher. We will also send a large Chevy truck, donated by Bob Perry, and a heavy trailer. Gary picked up the truck in utah, and it is in the process of being readied for the journey with new brakes, some tires, battery, new fluids, and various new filters and injectors. WFl has experienced drivers who will take the vehicle on the 4000+-mile journey early this spring. This is also the first time we have tried to import any containers after a scandal last fall in Guatemala sent the vice president to jail on corruption charges and caused the president to be reelected by a landslide. The new government may mean changes in import policy, especially since the scandal involved bribing well-placed officials to allow the introduction of containers by certain companies without paying the proper fees and taxes. It is my belief this problem may well make it harder and more expensive to import containers and equipment. At the very least, it will result in more scrutiny during the import process. In our experience, any increase in import procedures means an increase in fees. The import process has always seemed haphazard at best, and this will probably make it worse. This year, Water for life is testing the entire range of importation problems. We have one container full of our usual drilling equipment, one container of donated medical equipment for the government hospital, one container entirely of printed material, plus one heavy truck and trailer coming over land. This will be educational. Maybe we will learn we tried to do too much or it costs too much. Well, “too much is always enough.” (I think this applies in education too.) Thank you to all our supporters and volunteers. Without the Good lord and you, none of what Water for life does would be possible. Thank you again.
