Continental Resources, Inc., one of the top ten independent oil producers in the U.S. Lower 48, announced the completion of a record-breaking oil well within the overpressured oil window of Oklahoma’s STACK play. Labeled the Verona, the well initially flowed at a 24-hour test rate of 3339 barrels per day, composed 2345 barrels of oil (or 70% of production), and 6 million cubic feet of 1370-Btu (British thermal units) of natural gas. The well is producing from the Meramec reservoir, through a 9700-foot lateral at a flowing casing pressure of about 2400 psi on a 34/64-inch choke. “The Verona is another example of the exceptional results we are getting from wells drilled in the over-pressured oil win- dow of STACK,” said Harold Hamm, chairman and chief executive officer. “We couldn’t be more pleased with the performance of our wells in STACK and the addition of this outstanding asset to our portfolio.” The Verona is Continental’s ninth well completed in the STACK oil window, and all have been noteworthy producers. Continental is working to complete four additional Meramec wells, and currently has 11 rigs drilling in STACK, with six in the Meramec zone, and the remaining five within the Woodford zone.
