Drilling contractors, in general, do not believe in dowsers or water witches, and neither do scientists and other educated people. Neither do I. The question is in the def- inition of the word believe . This means different things. Some people believe a little bit, some a lot, and some even more, to the point of getting upset if you don’t believe - past the point of reasoning. It could be said, “I bel ieve this might work, or this might be so.” The lit- tle I know about this subject at this point, I believe this could turn out to really be something, so far it has been scientifically sound. So, the word has a lot of uses which are the same or similar to: “I think this is so, or works.” or “I do not think this is so, or works.” People have often said to me they do not believe in water witching or dowsing, or whatever they may call the act of finding water with the help of some device. I say, “I don’t either.” They are surprised at this for a second. Then I say, “I don’t believe it works. I know it works for me.” I have put a lot of time and thought into finding water, oil, and gas creeks underground. It is not a belief to me, it is a fact, and I have made a science out of it. So, the word believe in your statement says to me you know nothing about what I do. So if you would like, I could teach you enough to know this is not a belief, it is a fact. I can do this with the help of a device or without. It may be easier to just take a moment and talk awhile. For instance, have you ever heard the story of how the compass came into being a detection method that points to the North Pole? It witches, meaning detects the North Pole; and this is harder than detecting underground fluids. If you can hold a magnet, I can take a wire and, when I get close to it, the wire will point right to it. If I get too close to it, it will stick to the magnet.
