The developments by DET CRC were tested during the MSDP and deliv- er real-time information during drilling programs, which enables quick deci- sion making as a result. The technolo- gies assessed included the following: k Wi reless Sub - moni tors dr i l l ing parameters, such as the downward force on the dri l l bit, which enables them to be analyzed at the site, as well as remotely, to optimize performance and increase productivity. k Fluid Management System - provides real-time information on the chemical composition of the drilling fluids, and facilitates keeping these fluids in opti- mal condition, making drilling more effi- cient. k AutoSonde with gamma sensor - pro- vides geophysical wireline log-type data on the nature of the rocks intersected in drill holes without separate mobilization of a wireline logging crew or additional time requirements at the drill site. It is deployed into the hole by the operator and analyzes the rocks intersected as the drill rods are pulled out of the hole. k AutoShuttle - deployed downhole by the drill operator in a similar way to the AutoSonde and acquires data while drilling is progressing. It is ‘shuttled’ to and from the surface (with its recorded data) every time the core barrel is retrieved, usually about every ten feet. k Lab-at-Rig ® - provides near real-time X-ray fluorescence geochemistry and X-ray diffraction mineralogy on drill cuttings, allowing greater confdence in assessing the prospectivity of the drill core. All results are able to be monitored remotely, and also permit ongoing analysis of the drilling operation.
