WorldWide Drilling Resource
Ronnie’s Real World As many of you know, I have been in this business and began this magazine many years ago. What amazes me most about the industry and especially this magazine? The industry: The people in it and their dedication to serving humans in whichever field of drilling it might be. Give that some thought - since this magazine covers all aspects of the drilling industry, that is great many being served by a very few. This Magazine: Several months ago, I sat in my office here at WWDR and listened to the hustle and bustle as those few here served the many across the world. It amazed me to hear it all, and remember not too long ago, none of them knew a thing about this industry, publishing a magazine, handling a website, subscriber database, selling advertising, and more. As I listened, I realized how much they have learned in a very short time. Their dedication is exactly like that of each of you - the few serving the many. Recently, although I was not in the office nor on the travel schedule, I realized just how well they manage without my presence. I’m not sure if I should take credit for that success, or be saddened by it. Think I’ll opt for the first (take credit)! There weren’t many questions asked of me during that time, and that showed just how well I taught the few, and they taught the rest. So, see how well they did? You didn’t even realize I wasn’t here. What a great success story that is. I am so very pleased with them and with the Drilling Industry period. They and you are my family. There was a BIG question asked of me several years ago, as a matter of fact, just a few years after we began this magazine: “When are you going to retire Ronnie?” My answer was simple - “I’m NOT!” Gosh, what would I do if I weren’t doing this? I’ve never been a homebody - when my children were born, I went back to work the minute the nursery was able to care for them (by state law). I rarely took a vacation day. I rarely took a sick day. Call me a bad mother, but after my divorce many years ago, with two very young children, and a job to keep, I paid someone more than I wasmaking to watchmy two children, Lora and Troy, at home when they had the measles. Why? Because I was afraid of losing my job. Many of you have met my children as they have helped out many times. I think they turned out great. Guess you could call me a worka- holic? Or you could say, I love to work. So retire? NO! Travel less? Perhaps. But, whenver I’m needed, I’ll be here or just a phone call away. Now, I have a request of you. We are working on our 2018 Marketing Guides. Guides aremeant to HELPYOU. We can’t help you, if we dont’ know what you need. So please, pick up your phone and call one of Public Relations Professionals, Kathy, Jan, Brenda, Betsy, or our Chief Marketing Officer Ed, and let them know what you need. If you don’t know what you need, they will make some suggestions at your request, because they have graduated The School of Hard Knocks, just like you. Always SMILE ~ It’s contagious! Thank-You! For allowing us to serve you. This truly is, Ronnie’s Real World . . . and it makes me VERY HAPPY. 29 WorldWide Drilling Resource ® AUGUST 2017
