13 WorldWide Drilling Resource ® JANUARY 2017 Nucor Corporation Strengthens its HSS Steel Tubing Presense Nucor Corporation announced it has acquired Independence Tube Corporation of Chicago, Illinois, and has also agreed to acquire Southland Tube of Birmingham, Alabama. Independence Tube and Southland Tube manufacture hollow structural section (HSS) steel tubing, which is used in a broad array of structural and mechanical applications including nonresidential con- struction, infrastructure, and agricultural and construction equipment end-use markets. Through these acquisitions, Nucor is building a market leadership position in the HSS steel tubing market and providing an additional channel to market for Nucor's sheet steel mills.
