The “Idiots” Corner by “Billy Bob Smith” Fake News I don’t know about you, but I have had it up to my ears with all of this fake news. I am wearing out my TV remote so it hardly works anymore. What happened to truth? Are all we are going to get now is what some people want the truth to be, rather than what it is? The media, protesters, government employees, college professors - I have had enough of their bull_ _ _ _ and what they want to be truth, act like is true, may believe is true, and try to get me to believe is true. Not working, you idiots - I am smarter than you think I am. I could give you hundreds of examples, but I’ll bet you too have had enough. These people are all idiots - maybe they are big fans of this column - nah, I doubt it - they are all too busy making stuff up. Here are a few of the bigger ones that drive me nuts. But first, a couple of definitions for you idiots out there like me: Fake = forgery, counterfeit, copy, pirate(d) copy, sham, fraud, hoax, imitation, mock-up, dummy, re- production, phony, rip-off, knockoff, dupe. News = information about current events. Journalists provide news through many different media, based on word of mouth, printing, postal systems, broadcasting, electronic communication, and also on their own testimony, as witnesses of relevant events. (Note that truth is not included in this definition. No wonder we have fake news issues!) There are over 250 fake news websites listed - here are just two: 1. Don't Be Fooled! A Guide to Fake News Websites: https://www.thoughtco.com/guide-to-fake-news-websites-3298824 Satire is a venerable form of social commentary using humor to ridicule human vices and follies. The Internet is rife with it, especially news satire, or fake news in which fictionalized accounts of current events are presented in mock-journalistic style to lampoon politicians, celebrities, and social mores. 2. Snopes’ Field Guide to Fake News Sites and Hoax Purveyors: Snopes.com's updated guide to the Internet's clickbaiting, news-faking, social media-exploiting dark side. Here are just five fake news stories. There are literally tens of thousands of these types of stories worldwide, and we wonder why people have stopped trusting these idiots! 1. Kim Jong Un is the Sexiest Man in the World. 2. Every Style of Parenting Results in Miserable Adults. 3. As fake news stories go, this is about as brazen as it gets, considering how easily it could be debunked. Undeterred, an NBC News imitation site claimed in October the Republican presidential nominee had died of an apparent heart at- tack. 4. An FBI agent investigating Clinton died under suspicious circumstances. A fake news site called the Denver Guardian recently published a fabricated story about an FBI agent who had been found dead, along with his wife, in a Maryland town which does not exist. The story said officials were calling the episode a murder-suicide, but floated the idea “this was another hit job by the Clintons in retaliation for the FBI e-mail leaks so close to the presidential elec- tion.” Had enough? I know I have! Have a wonderful fake news month . . .
