In Memoriam It was with great sadness, the Ontario Ground Water Association Board of Directors and Staff said goodbye to long-standing member, Jim Hayter who passed away suddenly on March 16, 2017. James Edward “Jim” Hayter of Alvinston, Ontario, Canada, was in his 71st year. He was preceeded in death by his wife of 44 years, Mary Louise who passed just two weeks earlier on March 2, 2017. A dear father of Chad and Julie Hayter, and Pat and Melissa Hayter, he was a devoted grandfather to Sarah, Matt, Ryan, Joey, Sam, Tom, Michael, and Lily. Jim will be fondly remembered by additional relatives, friends, and colleagues. In 1982, he purchased a plumbing and heating business from Arnold Douglas, known today as The Hayter Group. He also served with the Alvinston Fire Department for 44 years, having served as Fire Chief for 15 years. At the time of his passing, he was the Deputy Mayor of the Municipality of Brooke-Alvinston and had served on the council for three terms, charter member of the Alvinston Districts Optimist Club, and a Canada 150 celebrations chairperson. Jim enjoyed fishing with friends and family, and was an avid supporter and fan of hockey and baseball. Eugene Robert Veinotte passed away March 21, 2017 at home in West Northfield, Nova Scotia, Canada. Born in Bridgewater on February 24, 1947, he is survived by his wife Lana Gail; son Andy (Cheryl); and twin daughters Anne and Angela (Nathan); grandchildren Dustin, Jacob, and Emily; brother Bruce (Heather); and sister Catherine. In 1971, he became a resident engineer for the Department of Transportation, as well as a member of the Association of Professional Engineers of Nova Scotia. In 1989, he received a Certificate of Appreciation from the Department of the Environment for Outstanding Service in the protection and preservation of the Nova Scotia Environment. He was an active (1973-2001) and honorary fireman of Northfield District Fire Department, as well as president of the West Northfield Community Centre for 30 years. Since 1973, he managed L.E. Veinotte & Sons Well Drilling and continued as owner/operator until 2017. He received the Driller of the Year Award in 1995, and the W.E. Brown Founders Award in 2004, for his support of the water well drilling industry. He was also actively involved with installing geothermal heating systems since 2007. He was a member of the Goulds Professional Dealers Association since 1987. Eugene was well respected by everyone he knew and in particular, people he worked with throughout his career in the well drilling industry from Ontario to Newfoundland. Mustangs and happy faces helped him stay positive while living with cancer for 17 years. The WWDR Team offers sympathies to the family, friends, and colleagues of these fine industry professionals.
