New Innovation Award for the Mining Industry Adapted from Information by the Society for Mining Metallurgy & Exploration The Society for Mining, Metallurgy & Exploration (SME) announced the launch of the Robert E. Murray Innovation Award which will recognize individuals or organizations who advance the mining industry through technical innovation. Whether it is through new equipment, processes, or systems, this award will acknowledge the implementation of technology designed to improve the exploration, economic viability, and extraction of minerals. The award will cover technology from the complete min- ing cycle, from exploration to closure, and include secondary roles such as engineering, construction, supply, and logistics. It will also recognize operations or organizations changing the mining industry through the addition or modification of cutting-edge tech- nologies and innovative processes. Barbara J. Arnold, president of SME said, “Innovation is one of the SME core values and we are pleased to have an award to rec- ognize these ideals.
