Here we were, hun- dreds of miles from home, telling good people where to spend addi t ional money in a search for a good water source, based only upon our water dowsing techniques. If we should fail, these people would hate us forever, and we would forever regret our deci- sion to offer to help them. (Carol often tells me that until the wells are drilled, I lose more s leep at night than the landowners do when we offer judgment about where a water well should be drilled, and this was certainly going to be one of those times.) Consumed with these thoughts, it was a long drive back to Minnesota. Caller ID on cell phones is some- times a blessing; at other times it is a curse. When the phone rang a few days later, I saw the area code and knew who it was.. I hesitated answering it for a few seconds. When I did, he said the drilling contractor came out and drilled where Carol and I said to, and hit water at 60 feet! They think it'll produce at least 10 gallons a minute. The drill operator also couldn’t believe it; he was about as happy as the landowners. It was unbelievable to them all. They planned to drill the second site we selected as a backup well and let us know what happened. He was excited to actually be able to live there after all. Since then, the backup site was drilled and a good water supply was encountered on that site also, at 65 feet. Some days later, I received a call from the father saying a great water supply was found on his pasture property too, just a short distance from his 475-foot dry hole! Is our work satisfying?
