Merrill Copper Lube is a more reasonably priced option commonly used in the oil drilling industry, while working equally as well for water well drilling. It is recommended for tool joints and drill collars to prevent galling and seizing. It applies easily to threaded connections even under cold and wet conditions. This lube is a lead-free, zinc-free, high copper flake compound with a combination of graphite and extreme pressure additives, which can be used for all types of drilling applications. Several container sizes are available and it can be used in temperatures as low as -49ºF (-45ºC), meaning a winter-grade drilling lube does not need to be stocked. Copper 31 has the same basic qualities as Copper Lube with its high copper flake content and extreme pressure additives, and is recom- mended for rotary shouldered connections. It is also available in several container sizes, contains no lead or zinc, and can be used to 15ºF (-9ºC). Merrill well drilling lube is your number one defense against galling and seizing.
