WorldWide Drilling Resource
50 JANUARY 2018 WorldWide Drilling Resource ® In Memoriam With heavy hearts, the Utah Ground Water Association (UGWA) sadly reported the recent passing of two members. Clinton Karl “Clint” Howell (1948~2017) Born in Moab, Utah, Clinton Karl “Clint” Howell attended a one-room elementary school in Bluff. He later went to San Juan High School at his leisure, much preferring working and learning alongside his lifelong friends and mentors Calvin Black and George Petty. He learned skills which would carry him through several business ventures and boom/bust eras. Clint liked the challenge of trying to see underground, so he loved to operate a drill. He wasn’t afraid of taking risks, which he carefully thought out. When he found it necessary to use planes to keep up with his business needs, he learned to fly, and got one of his own. He married Pam in 1966, they had four children together, then divorced in 1983. Starting a second chapter in his life, Clint married Joy in 1988, and adopted her two children. They went into the hospitality business in Mexican Hat, feeding people “the best steaks they ever ate”. He still owned his oil field he was very proud of since it continues to be the oldest producing field in the state. The family later expanded their interests into the hotel business and Clint continued operating his drilling company through a unique partnership with his good friend Randee Bayles. Clint loved animals of all kinds, especially dogs and horses. He also enjoyed gardening, canning, and boating. He passed away on October 26, 2017. He is survived by his wife Joy; children Christy, Roby, Danny, Terrie Jo, Billy, and Haley; beloved grandchildren Jesse, Kyle, Casey, Shelbi, DJ, Dylan, Breanna, Denim, Wyatt, Kendell, Cantrelle, and Reji; and extended family. Gordon James Hall (1962~2017) Gordon James Hall was born on July 7, 1962, in Provo, Utah. In 1980, he met Kathy and they fell head over heels in love and stayed that way for 37 years and counting. Gina, Megan, DJ, Jacob, and Ben came along and made their family even better. Then Camille, Chris, Kurtis, Tonya, and Gillian joined the fun. This wasn’t enough, so a few German exchange students were added - Susanne, Lisa, Kai, and Tom. Gordon also loved his amazing sons- and daughters-in-law - Coy, Mark, Tricia, Christina, Matt, Nathan, and Nate. His favorite thing in life was to spend time at Flaming Gorge and other wonderful vacations he was able to take with his family. Gordon’s crowning achievements were his 14½ grandkids: Katie, Ava, Josh, Olivia, Levi, Amy, Desmond, Liam, Molly, Harper, Greta, Amelia, Myka, Ellie, and baby on the way. He was a hard worker who was honest and took pride in the business he owned and operated, Hall Drilling Co. Even with stage 4 cancer, he was out there drilling one last well. He was the one who would stop to help a stalled car, lend an ear, or mediate an argument. He passed away on November 6, 2017. George H. Keys The Minnesota Water Well Association sadly informed of the passing of longtime member George H. Keys on November 19, 2017. He served as president from 1963-64, then again in 1989. He was owner of Keys Well Drilling in St. Paul, and an active member of many organizations within the community. George is survived by his wife of 67 years, Marcella; children Patricia, Michael (Kitty), Jeffrey (Paula), and Douglas (Karen); 11 grandchildren; and 8 great-grandchildren. The management and staff of WWDR send their sincere condolences to the family, friends, and former colleagues of these industry professionals. Lest we forget..
