The “Idiots” Corner by “Billy Bob Smith” Time Spent and Wasted Time - use it or lose it. Be an idiot and waste it on worry, regret, blame, and fear of the future; or use it to become smarter, wiser, or better. Guilty of wast- ing time? Come on, dude. We all are guilty, but the question is - is our waste of time having a long-term negative impact on our life and our future? Over the years, I have wasted more time than I care to admit. I too have been an idiot, but in looking back I can also say I have tried to use the time I have been given to the best of my ability. This month, I want to share a few time issues which can or will ruin some areas of your life, and are not necessary. What we all do every day is make moment by moment decisions on how to spend our time. How about a few examples of how idiots waste or use time: j The average couple spends less than three minutes a day in serious and caring conversation. If they have kids, as parents they spend less than two minutes a day talking to them. I’m not referring to exchanges like - what’s for din- ner, do your homework, how was your day, etc. but stuff that matters over time. j The average teenager sends or receives over 2300 texts per month - on average over 65 per day. j The average adult spends between 5-7 hours a day look- ing at a screen. j During a typical lifetime, we will spend an average of eight months laughing, five weeks arguing, and 30 hours crying. j More than five years of their (Facebook users) life to posting social media updates about their life instead of living it. j One year and three months doing chores. j Eight years and ten months of our lives are given over to watching television. j Far too much time addicted to e-mails - 62% of at-work e-mail users check work e-mail over the weekend, and 19% check it five or more times in a weekend. More than 50% said they check it on vacation. Enjoy this summer. I won’t waste any more of your time on this topic as I could go on for hours about how we all waste time or spend it on stuff that over time really doesn’t matter. So I’ll leave you with two of my favorite quotes: “Twenty years from now, you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch a trade wind in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.” ~ Mark Twain “We are all born ignorant, but one must work hard to remain stupid.” ~ Ben Franklin Billy Bob Contact him via e-mail to michele@worldwidedrillingresource.com 31 WorldWide Drilling Resource ® JULY 2018
