Wizard Lake Rex Oil Discovery Adapted from Information by Whitebark Energy Whitebark Energy’s (WBE’s) Rex target at Wizard Lake, Alberta, Canada, is the first horizontal well to be drilled in a potential multiwell program. Recent activ- ity in the area has resulted in highly commercial wells. Drilling of the Wizard Lake Rex well finished in December of 2018. The well intersected a continuous reservoir section from the casing shoe to a total depth of over 9000 feet, accompanied by excellent oil shows and elevated gas read- ings. Following a 27-stage fracture stimulation program, the well commenced cleanup flows. WBE Managing Director David Messina stated, “We are very pleased by the well results. Not only does it appear we have a very exciting well on our hands, but the drilling operation has been done on time and budget. We look forward to the [hydraulic fracturing] work being finished so we can commence the testing pro- gram.” The well test successfully established the oil production capability of the reservoir. Whitebark Energy stands to increase its oil production by more than 200%. After flow testing of the Wizard Lake Rex horizontal oil well recorded pro- duction rates of 305 barrels of oil per day prior to the completion of testing, establishing the production capability of the reservoir. Oil cuts were trending upward through the stabilized flow period, indicating potential for further increas- es with full-time production. While rates were continually increasing, it was determined the field was commercial, and ongoing testing costs could be better directed to bringing the field into long-term, lower cost production. The process is underway to tie-in the well and install production facilities while conserving solution gas. David Messina said, “The oil discovery by the Wizard well is an excellent result, and Whitebark is very pleased with the oil flow rates from the first well. This is just the sort of success WBE has been targeting and we look forward to pushing ahead with further appraisal work and production operations during the first half of 2019.” DIR 50 APRIL 2019 WorldWide Drilling Resource ®
