The “Idiots” Corner by “Billy Bob Smith” I know I did a previous article on New Year’s Resolutions, but is it me or is the world getting crazier and more idiotic every year? Since we have started a new year, I thought we could kick it off with everyone’s good intentions to fix things, change things, get better, be wiser, or just live with some common sense, but I’m sure if you are reading this, you don’t need to change or fix anything in your life - right? Well, let me share some of the New Year’s Resolutions a few of my friends, family, and a couple of strangers shared with me. They range from pure stupid to pure outrageous. What do you think? Keep in mind, it doesn’t matter what your intentions are - it’s what you do with your intentions that matters, and I’m here to tell you as The Genius when it comes to idiots - the world has more of them this year than last year. Are the numbers increasing or am I just getting more cynical? j One teenager told me that next year they were going to grow up and act more mature. j A server in one of my favorite restaurants told me next year she was going to start being nicer to customers. j An airport gate agent told me he was going to stop lying to cus- tomers and only tell the truth, but was afraid he might get fired as a result. j A hotel clerk told me their resolu- tion was to stop gossiping about guests to other guests. j A family member told me in 2019 they were going to start paying more attention to their astrological messages. j A neighbor said for the entire year of 2019 they were only going to eat vegetables for every meal. j A distant relative I haven’t seen in years said in 2019 they were going to do a better job of visiting family and friends even though they were confined due to health reasons. j Okay, I can’t resist this one. I was eating dinner at a restaurant (the city can remain nameless) and I overheard these newlyweds in the next booth talking about plans and goals for next year. She said, “Let’s try and have a child this year.” He said, “I think we should wait a few years.” She then said, “We shouldn’t wait too long, we are getting older every day.” He reconsidered, “Okay, let’s make a resolution next year to have more ______ in the _______.” Sorry I had to edit this comment for reasons I’m sure you would under- stand if you knew what I heard. Anyway, even I was embarrassed, and trust me, I have heard it all over the years. So, what were your resolutions for this year, and how many have you already broken? Have a great 2019!
