This is a very special month for the United States of America - this is the month we celebrate our independence. What exactly does “independence” really mean to each of us who were born here, grew up here, received our education here, work here, and have raised our families here? Nowadays it is a notion “I deserve this”. Well, I ask why do you think you deserve anything for FREE? What have you done to deserve anything? Did you stand up and fight for your country? Did you work every day of your life? Are you still working hard everyday for your future and that of your family, friends, and others? If you answer no to these questions, then I have to say, others did. All gave some, some gave all; and they did that so the rest of us could be free to choose. They allowed us the right to vote, get an education, travel across this great land of ours, raise our families, and not be punished for doing it. Oh yes, we may not agree with the tally on the votes, or the choices of our education (maybe because we expected it to be handed to us on a silver platter), and maybe we feel we should have a great big house, with a shiny new car, and fancy clothes, just because “we deserve it”. I have to say again, no one owes you anything. So, if you are waiting for a handout, stand in that line and wait. But don’t wait on me to give it to you without you working for it, because you will go hungry, be homeless, and be waiting a very long time, if not forever, until someone comes along who feels you deserve what they have worked so hard for, and gives it to you FREE. (There is more on Page 68 of what we take for granted.) This is my personal opinion, from my observations for 70 years. No one ever gave me anything I didn’t work for, and I’m proud of what I have achieved in life. You should be too. So get up and make yourself proud of YOU.
