Adapted from Information by the Global Petroleum Show Organizers of the Global Petroleum Show (GPS), dmg :: events, announced the popular energy event held in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, every two years since 1968, will now be held on an annual basis. The 2012 event was a record-break- ing year for GPS, which welcomed 63,000 attendees from 100 countries. The event also featured 2000 exhibiting companies in the oil and gas industry showcasing the latest technologies, products, and serv- ices. "This is an important evolution for the industry, for Canada, and for Calgary," said Wes Scott, executive vice president of dmg :: events (Canada) Inc. "Since 1968, Global PetroleumShow has been a major platform for international and local mar- kets to conduct business face-to-face. The annualization of Global Petroleum Show offers more opportunities to con- nect the industry and explore the latest developments and innovations facing the global sector." Making GPS an annual event was due primarily to attendee and exhibitor demand for annual access to emerging markets, the latest technologies, and collaboration with industry experts. In fact, 75% of attendees who were polled about the subject, indicated they would participate in GPS on an annual basis. "The annualized Global Petroleum Show in Calgary demonstrates the city's position as a global energy center," said Bruce Graham, president & CEO for Calgary Economic Development. "We have the people, ex- perience, and ex- pertise; and now an additional opportuni- ty to showcase the innovation of our industry and opportunities for the world to be part of our energy." Show organizers expect the 2014 event, being held June 10-12 , to sur- pass attendance numbers from 2012, making it the largest GPS to date. Some of the key benefits of annual- izing GPS include: • The ability to showcase rapidly advancing technology on an "as it happens" basis; providing attendees with the latest developments on mar- ket research and technology. • The opportunity for increased mar- ket share and the chance for ex- WWDR photos from the 2012 GPS event. hibitors to get in front of customers on a more regular basis. • Enhanced opportunity for atten- dees to do business with emerging markets such as Latin America and China, which move at a quick pace. The annualization of GPS also marks the end of the Gas & Oil Expo, which was held in the off years of GPS.
