51 WorldWide Drilling Resource ® AUGUST 2013 New Direct Push Sampling Liners with Large Environmental Bene ts News Release by Environmental Service Products ESP, Inc. (Environmental Service Products), Florida develops biodegradable plastic sampling products for groundwater and soil. They pioneered the research and now manufacture a range of landfill biodegradable plastic sampling products. BioLiners are disposable PVC liners used in direct push soil sampling machines. The liners are made from clear PVC to allow the viewing of the undisturbed soil sample taken. They are available to suit the most common soil sampling tool configurations and have numerous advantages over tradi- tional products. • Lower cost liners at the same quality. • Unlike common disposable plastic items, once in a landfill, natural microbes will start to digest the liners away. In fact, the biodegradable additive spreads into similar plastic materials making the landfill biodegradable too. • These products can still be recycled with other plastics of the same material. • Products with this landfill biodegradable additive have no shelf life issues and can be stored as long as traditional bailers or liners. • Traditionally, nonbiodegradable products were used to monitor the cleanliness of ground- water or soil, then they were discarded to make more plastic waste somewhere else. This doesn’t make a lot of sense. With the new BioLiners, this waste accumulation is no longer happening.
