Focus on UCT For nearly 20 years, the UCT ( Un d e r g r o u n d C o n s t r u c t i o n Te c h n o l o g y ) International Conference & Exhibition has been the premier event focusing on underground construction and horizontal directional drilling (HDD) needs. Held inHouston, Texas, at theGeorge R. Brown Convention Center, January 28- 30, UCT brings professionals together from around the globe and from every segment of the industry. This year, the exhibit floor will be full of the latest equipment and supplies and representatives eager to answer your questions about the latest trends in the industry. Look for the WWDR Team at booth #745 and those red jackets cov- ering the halls! Routine Maintenance and Remanufactured Airends Pay Off Part 2 by Marc James, Aftermarket Sales & Marketing Manager, Doosan Portable Power Last month, we dis- cussed the importance of performing routine maintenance when try- ing to maximize the lifespan of your airend. If maintenance and repairs can no longer remedy your airend’s afflictions, you can purchase a new or remanufac- tured airend. Some authorized dealers, and most OEMs (original equipment manufactur- ers), have new airends readily available and prepared for shipment; however, this option can present a monetary burden to businesses. A remanufactured airend is an eco- nomical solution. Today, more and more equipment owners are looking at the option of remanufacturing airends versus purchasing new. Dealers may have some available, but, if not, the OEM can usually ship a remanufactured airend quickly. Not only is a remanufactured airend less expensive, this option also involves little to no risk. During the remanufactur- ing process, new and used components are used to rebuild an airend meeting OEM standards. Purchasing through an authorized dealer grants peace of mind that all the damaged or obsolete parts have been carefully replaced with quality OEM parts. Many OEMs offer the same warranty or optional extended warranty for re- manufactured airends as new airends. The cost and waste of buying a remanu- factured airend can be reduced further if a used airend meets specific criteria and is returned to the OEM. At that time, a core credit is granted and applied toward the purchase of a remanufactured airend. Ultimately, the best thing you can do for your business is build a relationship with an authorized dealer who knows how to maintain your equipment, and follow the manufacturer’s airend maintenance schedule to ensure optimum preserva- tion of your drills and air compressors. When the time comes to replace your airend, consider an airend exchange as an economical way to procure a high- quality, remanufactured product backed by a factory warranty. 18 DECEMBER 2013 WorldWide Drilling Resource ® Storkson cont’d from page 17. applications as well. They are replacing switches in many applications because they are often smaller, lighter, and cheap- er than mechanical switches and last far longer in many cases. Transistors can be made to switch thousands of volts, but are most often used for low- voltage applications because low-volt- age transistors are cheaper to make. Transistors are a major component in most every modern technology we use. Britt Britt Storkson may be contacted via e-mail at admin@ worldwidedrillingresource.com Featuring over 100 educational ses- sions, attendees can earn continuing education units, and professional devel- opment hours. Preshow and postshow courses will be held all week from January 27-31. The seminars and panel discus- sions are geared for those at every expe- rience level. The RehabZone in the exhibit hall is a show in itself. Attendees can roam through stations staffed by industry ex- perts to view various technologies. A live demonstration area is the last stop in the RehabZone. New this year, is the Technology Test Drive area. You put the gloves on, push the buttons, and drive each technology to better understand how it works. You don’t want to miss this top-notch event!
