WorldWide Drilling Resource
31 WorldWide Drilling Resource ® NOVEMBER 2013 Focus on 40 th Kentucky Blasting Conference You are invited to the 40 th Kentucky Blasting Conference (KBC) at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Lexington, Kentucky, December 12-13. KBC offers two sessions of techni- cal presentations and four workshop sessions which can provide up to 12 hours of continuing education credits for licensed blasters in Kentucky. This is the perfect chance to review the basic blasting methods and materials, learn the latest techniques, and evaluate the results. Reserve your place today! Over 50 exhibits of blasting prod- ucts and equipment will also be on dis- play. Be sure to look for WWDR there. For more information, call 859-312-0625 or visit www.kyblastingconference.com Herb, Susie, and Dorris from Givens International Drilling Supplies attended the 2012 Kentucky Blasting Conference. The seminars were packed last year. WWDR photos. KOOL KAP ® ~ Not Your Typical Gas Bag Adapted from Information by PR Polymers KOOL KAP ® gas bags are self-inflat- ing bags which when activated and low- ered or dropped down a borehole, will seal the hole providing an effective deck for loading explosives and/or stemming. Using air decking for presplits can significantly reduce the amount of explo- sives used, noise, ground vibration, back- break, and backshatter. Gas bags are also good for blocking off wet and dewa- tered holes, eliminating the need for ex- pensive and less effective emulsions. They are also great for standing off coal beds to stop coal shock and for decking holes with varying layers of rock hard- ness. When it comes to gas bags, KOOL KAP ® has the lowest failure rate of any gas bags on the market. The patented activator cap cools during operation, re- ducing misfire and making them ideal for both hot and cool conditions. KOOL KAP ® bags have a surface failure rate of less than 1% and a 99.5% hole infla- tion success rate. They have been tested at -4ºF (-20ºC) in Colorado’s winter, and up to 149ºF (65ºC) in the Australian sum- mer, making them ideal for all conditions. They are supplied in a ready-to-use package, which can be modified to suit any needs, such as: • Faster expansion time for shallow blasting • Slower expansion time for deeper blasting • “Top-first” expansion for quick grip- ping • Extra weight for deep hole plugging • Small-diameter bags ideal for use in underground and quarrying appli- cations KOOL KAP ® gas bags are also safe. They are designed with a propellant which does not perform as an ideal gas, pre- venting the problems associated with exploding gasses under pressure. This revolutionary product uses dissolving Dimethyl Ether in an aqueous solution to deliver a nonflammable product. When combined with its unique and patented actuator cap, the resulting gas bag offers unparalleled performance with significant environmental and safety advantages over alternative technologies. KOOL KAP ® gas bags are tough and capable of withstanding pressure far beyond what is required in normal drilling and blasting conditions. The two inner bags are highly pressure resistant, and the outer bag is chip resistant, avoiding punctures, and providing high friction to avoid slipping after the hole is loaded. These gas bags can be used in many different conditions, from hot holes to underwater holes; they also meet any environmental or usage requirements; and available in sizes from 4-15 inches. KOOL KAP ® gas bags are sold around the world and can be customized to suit any specific site condition.
