62 NOVEMBER 2013 WorldWide Drilling Resource ® Canadian Mining Industry Receives Funds to Assist with International Development Adapted from a Press Release by the Canadian Institute of Mining, Metallurgy, and Petroleum The Canadian Institute of Mining, Metallurgy, and Petroleum (CIM) announced it has been granted $111,625 in matching funds from the Government of Canada’s Global Opportunities for Associations (GOA) program to support CIM’s international development efforts. CIM is one of 39 industry associations to receive a portion of the $3 million funding seeking to create new opportunities for Canadian companies in markets throughout the world. “Our government is committed to helping workers and businesses within key sectors of our economy expand and succeed in new markets around the world because we know this creates jobs, growth, and long-term prosperity for hardworking Canadians here at home,” said The Honorable Edward Fast, minister of international trade. “Today’s announcement will help them do just that through investments in every region of our country that will put in place new tools and programs to help world-class Canadian businesses succeed in global markets.” “The GOA program will enable us to better showcase Canadian expertise and solutions and help Canadian business people to understand the growing potential in these emerging economies,” said Jean Vavrek, executive director for CIM. Vavrek explained the funding will be instrumental in supporting a wide variety of important initiatives such as incoming and outgoing missions between Canada and West Africa, Latin America, and China.
