WorldWide Drilling Resource

24 OCTOBER 2013 WorldWide Drilling Resource ® Cascade Drilling Acquires New Business Adapted from a Press Release by Cascade Drilling, L.P. Cascade Drilling, L.P. announced the acquisition of Boart Longyear's environ- mental and infrastructure (E&I) drilling services business in the United States. This transaction will combine the strengths of Cascade with those of the E&I business to create the largest and most technically capable environmental and geotechnical drilling company in the country. The acquisition will bring Cascade’s rig count to over 200 high- quality sonic, rotary, auger, coring, and probe rigs serving clients in all regions of North America. “The acquisition of E&I more than doubles the size of Cascade and com- bines two organizations with shared val- ues of safety, client service, and technical excellence,” said Timothy Smith, CEO of Cascade. “Adding the E&I business gives us the ability to better serve our clients on a national level. E&I is known through- out the industry for its expertise in sonic drilling, and for its dedicated crews and operations managers. The combined company will have unmatched capabil- ities to provide sonic, rotary, auger, rock coring, and direct push drilling services nationwide.” Financing for the transaction was led by Emigrant Capital Corp. Christopher Staudt, a director with the company said, “We were delighted by the opportunity to support Cascade's acquisition of E&I. We believe the combined capabilities of Cascade and E&I create the premier environmental and geotechnical drilling provider in the United States. We look for- ward to continuing to work with Cascade as it executes its growth plan.” The combined company will retain the Cascade Drilling, L.P. name and employ approximately 450 people in 19 offices nationwide. Doosan Introduces New Quiet and Cool Generators Adapted from Information by Doosan Portable Power Doosan Portable Power expanded its mobile generator portfolio to deliver the quietest and coolest generators avail- able on the market, the Tier 4i-compliant G70WCU, G85WCU, and G125WCU. The new models feature an innova- tive cooling system with a variable speed cooling fan, keeping the generators cool and maximizing productivity and fuel effi- ciency in even the most extreme temper- atures. The enclosure includes deep air intake pockets that protect the generator from external elements and virtually elim- inate water ingression. Innovative airflow management on the models route engine heat without compromising sound atten- uation, contributing to the industry’s low- est operating sound levels of just 64-67 dBA (decibles), depending upon the model. The redesigned G70WCU delivers a 5% output increase at 77 kVA/62 kW, an 86% increase in runtime at 38 hours, and a 4 dBA reduction, operating at just 64 dBA. The G85 and G125 mark new power nodes for the Doosan Portable Power lineup, allowing customers to maximize fuel and power efficiency by selecting the power node that best meets their appli- cation needs. The models are powered by a fuel- efficient Tier 4i-compliant Cummins QSB5 engine, contributing to the extended run- times, which range from 24-38 hours at 100% load. The engine maximizes machine uptime and enhances operator ease of use with no diesel particulate fil- ter (DPF) - the diesel oxidation catalyst (DOC) aftertreatment is maintenance free, so operators are no longer required to shut down to regenerate the machine. Further maximizing fuel efficiency on these generators is a thermostatically-controlled, clutch-driven cooling fan, which ensures the fan runs at the precise speed required to maintain optimum cooling temperature regardless of ambient temperature. “Customers have plenty to think about on a jobsite, so the challenge is to create the most autonomous machine possible, one that can operate reliably in extreme conditions, and deliver what customers need so they can focus on other things,” said Wyatt Franks, assistant product marketing manager, NorthAmerican gen- erators, Doosan Portable Power. “We designed these Tier 4i models to provide dynamic capabilities in an easy-to-oper- ate package - offering maximized runtime, simplified serviceability, and technology advancements like Quad Voltage, oper- ated by an intuitive control panel.” Operation has been simplified with a number of control panel enhancements including large, LED-backlit analog meters. These meters provide at-a-glance monitoring of vital engine and genera- tor parameters, while a full diagnostic display alerts operators of fault condi- tions like low fuel, minimizing operating costs by saving technicians the need for expensive hand-held code readers or laptop-based diagnostic tools. Adual-scale ammeter measures and provides read-outs on even the smallest current changes, while the voltage selec- tor switch is equipped with the industry’s only VSS protection scheme - guarding against an operator switching voltage during machine use - if the VSS door is opened, the machine shuts down com- pletely. .7 1"6'.1%25*++& ).-& "7 +.6$&-3&1 +../ /4,/ ,.%4+&2 "1& "5"*+ "#+& '.1 #.3) 1&2*%&-3*"+ "-% $.,,&1$*"+ (1.4-% +../ )&"3*-( "-% $..+*-( 2823&,2 .,/"3*#+& 6*3) 3)&2& /4,/2 14-%'.2 !* +. +.6$&-3&12 $"- #& $.- '*(41&% 6*3) .1 /4,/ 4-*32 3. ,"3$) %*''&1&-3 +."% 1&04*1&,&-32 1.%4$32 *-$+4%& +.6$&-3&12 &.3)&1,"+ +.2&% ../ *33*-(2 &/+"$&,&-3 4,/2 .2& *32 "-% $$&22.1*&2 "1*"#+& /&&% 4,/2
