61 WorldWide Drilling Resource ® SEPTEMBER 2013 SIMCO ® Just Won’t Quit Adapted from Information Provided by SIMCO Drilling Equipment, Inc. SIMCO ® Drilling Equipment has been designing and building top-of-the- line drills since 1969. Their state-of-the- art manufacturing facility is located in Osceola, Iowa, and SIMCO ® drill rigs are currently at work on every conti- nent in the world. These rigs have a variety of uses, including water well, geotechnical, environmental, mineral exploration, geothermal, construction, and a wide range of other diverse applications. Soon after SIMCO ® began devel- opment of hydraul ic dri l l rigs, they began making de- liveries of their first hydraulic auger rig, the crawler-mounted 3000TR. This rig was followed by the model 2400SK, de- signed to be mount- ed in a pickup or trailer. By the mid- 70s, as hydrostatic pumps became avail- able, the model 2800 HS was added to the company’s prod- uct line. The size and power available to this rig gave added capacity in the form of mud rotary drilling. Next in their product line, was the model 5000, a rig capable of drilling 1000 feet deep. Today, the company has several designs with advanced hydraulics avail- able. The SIMCO ® 7000 and 2800 models are offered in a high-torque geotechnical package with air/mud rotary options, allowing for exceptional versa- tility to the end user. Since 1994, when Southern Iowa Manufacturing, Inc. officially became SIMCO ® , loyal customers have fol- lowed them and thus made the compa- ny what it is today. Each person at SIMCO ® takes great pride in the quality of their work, knowing that taking care of a customer doesn’t stop after they buy the drill. They realize every- one has different needs, and they offer a list of services to cater to almost any customer, whether it be showing the new operator how to utilize their rig, or helping the veteran with outstanding customer service. SIMCO ® employees and their commitment to service are the backbone of the company. They are constantly working with customers to better understand their ever-growing and changing needs. Customers stay loyal because, unlike many of its com- petitors, SIMCO ® designs, engineers, manufactures, sells, and services all of their own equipment in-house. The company’s good reputation speaks for itself. Here’s what Curtis King, just one of many satisfied customers, had to say: We bought and sent [the 2800] drill rig to Haiti in 1978, it has drilled hundreds of wells in Haiti and a few in the Dominican Republic. I recently refurbished it after it went through three hurricanes and one earthquake. It just won't quit! A SIMCO ® 2800 geo- thermal drill rig at work in a tight spot.
