When the event ended, both the exhibitors and the organ- ization said the results achieved were better than expected. They were also convinced this edition “had become a turning point and a launch lever for an in- dustry that drives the creation of new job opportunities and wealth”. Among the positive aspects of this year’s event, the fair organized 50 trade missions to 28 different countries. By organizing trade missions, with the Spanish Association of Manufacturers of Construction, Public Works and Mining Machinery and other associations, the fair enabled exhibitors to become aware of their own strengths and test their abil- ity to do business throughout the world, building trade links with countries on-site at the fair. Reverse trade missions organized by SMOPYC 2014 included represen- tatives from Mexico, Chile, Colombia, Peru, Panama, Uruguay, Guatemala, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Lebanon, Jordan, Oman, Ecuador, Indonesia, Russia, Belarus, Kuwait, Sudan, South Africa, Paraguay, Costa Rica, Bolivia, Vietnam, Nigeria, Tanzania, Namibia, and Ethiopia. One of the new features of this edi- tion of SMOPYC, held jointly with the sixth edition of Logis, was the first Construction and Logistics PILOT Conference organized by the regional development agency Instituto Aragonés de Fomento y Feria de Zaragoza. During the conference, experts from both indus- tries attended different round tables to discuss the current picture in the fields of building, logistics, and transport, and exchanged views and knowledge from their different standpoints. The different industry associations arranged for as many as 29 parallel activ- ities to be carried out in the context of the fair, that once again served the main play- ers in the industry as a meeting point, as well as a forum for debate and reflection. SMOPYC 2014 hosted 720 ex- hibitors from 28 countries with each branch of the industry arranged in five pavilions where the latest innovations were on display. Countries represented included Italy, Germany, the United Kingdom, France, the Netherlands, USA, Austria, Belgium, Ireland, Slovenia, Luxemburg, Portugal, the Czech Republic, Finland, Sweden, Denmark, Turkey, the The ribbon-cutting ceremony for SMOPYC 2014. Ukraine, Australia, Canada, China, Japan, South Korea, India, Taiwan, and New Zealand. SMOPYC 2017 will once again be held in Zaragoza, Spain. The goal for the 2017 edition is for the fair to achieve the growth it deserves after standing fast for more than 35 years by an industry which is beginning to show signs of re- covery.
