45 WorldWide Drilling Resource ® FEBRUARY 2014 Ronnie’s Real World Ronnie’s Real World Believe it or not, despite the fact I personal- ly read every- thing that goes into this great magazine, I still take time, usu- ally while trav- eling to read a good book or two. Th i s pas t June, whi le at Exponor,ourbooth was next to a company who special- izes in removing corrosion. While nor- mally many of us would just pass it by, I was intrigued and felt compelled to speak with the gentleman there. His name is Dario Dell’Orto, vice president of international sales for CORTEC Corporation of St. Paul, Minnesota. He is the gentleman to the right in this photo. The reason I felt this way was because I realized each and every drill rig, and other piece of drilling equip- ment has this problem - corrosion! He was very informative and totally believed Jubilee 2013 photo taken by Ed Moranski. in this company, CORTEC, and what’s more, he spoke very highly of the man who created the company. He handed me a book entitled “ AMERICAN DREAM: a guy from croatia ” Boris Miksic . Normally I read attorney-type, serious mysteries, but this book I carried with me for many months wanting to take the time to read it, mainly because it was The American Dream and it was written by and about an immigrant. Dario is such a special man in his own right, when I asked him to sign it, he said it wasn’t him who made the company. What a wonderful tribute to the CORTEC Corporation. This is such a moving biography, I feel each true American should reach out and read it. There is a quote on the back of the book which says: “When he arrived in the United States, Boris Miksic brought along energy, intelli- gence, and determination. But also a dream. He was the Croatian gift to America. Today, as a successfull entre- preneur, he is the American gift to Croatia. Governor Rudy Perpich.” This is an exciting saga of a man who fled his home country with nothing but change in his pockets and built a successful company with determina- tion and guts in America. It’s a story of business savvy and risk taking that will arouse the entrepreneurial spirit in every reader. AND, that is just what it has done for me. Starting this company in 2003, we have had our ups and downs, trials and tribulations, much like Boris has had. It brought it home for me and gave me all the more determination to suc- ceed with this, our American Dream. You may be able to find a copy by going to www.borismiksic.net .
