Boart Longyear Wins Contract for Kibali Gold Mine Adapted from a Press Release by Boart Longyear Boart Longyear has been awarded a $70 million contract for exploration drilling services at the Kibali gold mine in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). The Kibali gold mine has the poten- tial of being one of the largest gold mines in Africa. Some estimate its reserves at close to 11 million ounces of gold. Located in the remote northeastern area of the DRC, the mine is operated by a joint venture between Randgold Resources Ltd., AngloGold Ashanti, and Sokimo. “We have had a long-standing asso- ciation with Boart Longyear. We value their technical expertise and ability to drill in the most challenging conditions, and with their help we have discovered five other world-class gold deposits in Africa,” said Paul Harbidge, general man- ager of exploration for RandgoldResources Limited. During the five-year contract, Boart Longyear will deploy at least seven rigs at the site and provide a variety of drilling techniques, including deep diamond cor- ing, reverse circulation, and rotary rigs for mine dewatering. “The Kibali contract represents the strong partnership between Randgold Resources and our company,” said Michael Napoletano, general manager of drilling services in Europe, Middle East, and Africa for Boart Longyear. “It will form a core part of our already sig- nificant business in the DRC for sever- al years.” Photo of the Kibali gold mine project courtesy of randgoldresources.com
