The reports from the field are good. Everyone has been safe this year, and there have been no serious injuries. No one has gotten ill beyond the usual bouts of intestinal distress, which is usually brought on by a little careless eating. The rigs have been working six days a week throughout the season, without much downtime for repair. All the drilling tools were returned to the surface without loss. This year there were 16 wells drilled in villages of northeast Guatemala. There were one or two that went down inside urban centers. We drilled one inside the public school yard in Santa Elena, another in a small town near there, and another at a school operated by a physi- cian from the States about six hours drive from our headquarters. The rest were in local villages in the Poptun and San Luis areas. Water for Life International has now drilled about 55 wells total. I do not know the exact number of villages served because I have not seen the latest fig- ures. We cannot tell very well the total number of people who are drinking water from wells we have drilled, but it is in the range of 20,000 to 30,000. There are several things which could throw the numbers off a little. There are at least two villages where we have drilled without success. One is La Compuerta where we lost a drilling string and quit when the crew ran into the same cav- ing problems on the second well. The addition of the third drilling rig in service has brought about the need for the mayors of the areas where we drill to be more involved in our efforts. The mayor of San Luis has been very helpful. He has provided steel cas- ing for the wells drilled in his region and has provided PVC liner also. He has also provided diesel fuel for our trucks and rigs. The mayor of Poptun has asked us to drill in one village in his municipality, but has not been able to provide much support for our efforts. We think he would like to do more, but he was elected to his office as an inde- pendent and does not share the same support from the national government as the mayor of San Luis does. We want to thank our donors across the country who read about our work and help by providing financial support. We are thankful for our drill crews and volunteers who come and drill and help out. We are thankful for the protection and providence of the Good Lord who makes it all possible.
