Adapted from Information by Pew Internet Google, Facebook, Twitter, You Tube, e-mail, if those words mean nothing to you, you aren’t alone. In today’s tech- nologically-advanced society, it’s hard to believe there are people who do not use the internet, but they are out there. A recent study conducted by Pew Internet, a project of the Pew Research Center, indicates 15% of American adults do not use the internet at all, and anoth- er 9% use the internet, but not at home. One may think, “it must be all the older people who are not online.” Although those 65 and older do make up 44% of those not online, they aren’t the only ones. When asked why they don’t use the internet, the majority of people said they just weren’t interested, thought it was a waste of time, did not want to use it, or had no need for it. Over 30% of noninternet users said the internet is too difficult and frustrat- ing, or they are frightened of spam, spy- ware, and hackers. Nearly 20% of those asked said they don’t own a computer, or the expense of owning a computer and paying for inter- net connection was too high. However, this doesn’t mean they are totally disconnected from the internet. Nearly half of offline adults have asked a friend or family member to look up something or complete a task for them on the internet. Not to mention, almost a quarter of them live in a household where someone else in the home uses the in- ternet. Ultimately, most noninternet adults have no desire to begin, or resume, using the internet. A shabby 8% of offline adults say they would like to start using the internet or e-mail. The remaining 92% said they just aren’t interested. Eric (R) passing the “gavel” to incoming president Jimmy. Sam & Chip representing CaDco Marketing. Board of Directors. The Auctionmeister!
