There are the usual challenges, but the drilling is proceeding. The villagers are happy to see the trucks arrive and the work started, and even happier when they go because of the new well that is left behind. We have three drilling rigs in oper- ation now. All three are pounding away on the limestone rock; punching holes that will last a long time. More and more people are experiencing the ben- efits of clean water in their lives. More babies and children are healthier and stronger because they do not have to drink the water polluted by waste from animals and people. So far this year we have completed 9 wells and are working on numbers 10 and 11 as I am writing this in the first week of March. We are on track to com- plete 12 or possibly 13 by the time the season ends on March 20. This will be the largest number of wells completed in a season. Last year we completed 11, but some of them were very shallow. At the conclusion of the year, Water for Life will have completed over 50 wells in rural northeast Guatemala. There are more than 25,000 people who now have access to clean, pure water as a result of the work of our volunteers. The operation of the three rigs has created logistic problems. We have a hard time supplying the necessary well casing pipe. Our current supply was limited and is now exhausted. We can sometimes purchase it in Guatemala City, but it is very expensive, takes several days to get, and is not always available. We have approached this problem by trying to get the local municipality where we are drilling to supply the well casing. The Mayor of San Louis has been very receptive to our presence and has been assisting us by supplying us with well casing and fuel. He understands the contribution we make to his people and sees our need. He provides a credit slip at a local station and we take our tank trailer and get 200 gallons of diesel at a time. This costs nearly 1000 US dollars. We are very thankful for his help. We need your help. We need sup- plies for next year. If you have casing pieces you can give us, we will be happy to receive them. We do not need to have full stems. We can weld them together and make them work. Better yet, come and join us. We have a fine group of dedicated drilling professionals who come from across the country to help. The only qualification you need is a heart to help people. God supplies that, and we will do the rest. Thank you.
