New Web Site for Canada’s Women in Mining Adapted from a Press Release by Women in Mining Vancouver Branch Canada’s Women in Mining (WIM) Vancouver has launched a new Web site to highlight the activities of WIM groups throughout British Columbia. The site offers information about each branch, their events, and how to become a WIM member. The group has an open invitation to professionals and students involved in, or affiliated with, the mineral exploration and mining indus- try to become part of their dynamic group. TheWeb site also offers links to other similar organizations around the world. Over the past five years, the organ- ization has seen an increase in member- ship and interest in the group, which is why they decided to launch a dedicated Web site. The site will help WIMmeet the needs of their members and newcomers, and provide a way to acknowledge spon- sors who support the group’s efforts. Getting the Web site started took a great deal of assistance. Kent Kirby with Adnet Communications Inc. designed the site and they also host the site. Adnet has a strong reputation for providing serv- ice to corporate clients, and has an inter- est in supporting nonprofit groups. PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) also donated funds to support the Web site effort. For several years, the Association for Mineral Exploration of BC (AMEBC) generously hosted a section on their Web site for WIM to promote its activities and achievements. Their support has been beneficial to the group as well. “Receiving the support from Adnet as the designers and hosts for our Web site is a testimony of the importance and value of relationships in the industry, an 48 JUNE 2014 WorldWide Drilling Resource ® alignment of values in terms of giving back to the community, and a gesture of encouragement; without them we could not have achieved this,” said Mafalda Arias, chair, WIM Vancouver. “The Web site has been a collaborative effort, and we acknowledge the support of PwC, and AMEBC who allowed us to have our first Web site. For Women in Mining Vancouver, having a Web site gives us virtual presence, it allows us to break through geographical barriers and con- nect with our members wherever they are.” Establishing this Web site has been a longtime goal of WIM, and the organiza- tion hopes to offer resources to interest- ed individuals around the province and showcase the inspiring efforts of women in mining in British Columbia.
