WorldWide Drilling Resource ® 15 MARCH 2014 Tufport ™ ’s Medical Mobile Treatment Center Adapted from Information Provided by Tufport When treating injured or ill workers at remote work sites, fast access to medical care and equipment is crucial. Transporting an injured worker from the work site to the work camp can be a challenge because an injured worker may be mi les away from the work camp, first-aid room, or hel icopter landing pad. Getting to help can mean transporting an injured person along miles of rugged terrain. The Tufport™ Medical Mobi le Treatment Center (MTC) is a unit that serves as both a first-aid room and an ambulance. The MTC can travel to the injured worker, and therefore saves the cost of having a first-aid trailer on the work site. An MTC provides the ability to give immediate first-aid attention to injured workers in a clean, warm, and comfortable environment. The unit can transport two injured workers, stabi- lized on stretchers, as well as a first-aid attendant. The units have enough stor- age to be well equipped with supplies, and come with running water and a sink. Mobile treatment centers are made of fiberglass and slide into the flatbed of a truck. They have been field tested and, when mounted in the bed of a four-wheel-drive truck, a Tufport-slide- in MTC is safe on both poorly main- tained roads and multilane highways. Tufport uses Fibermold, a technology they have developed over 40 years, and have produced over 15,000 units which meet tough engineering stan- dards. Tufport MTCs meet or exceed Canadian Motor Vehicle and Safety Standards in Canada, and Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards in the United States. The company says, “Over 15 years, we’ve proven that Tufport fiberglass Workers use an MTC at a work site. Tufport’s Medical Mobile Treatment Center MTCs are lighter and more rugged than city ambulances, outlast costly SUVs, and are safer than weaker alu- minum campers.” Easily mounted on a full-size pick- up, Tufport’s off-road ambulances provide a sensible alternative to per- manently dedicated vehicles. MTCs tend to outlast the trucks on which they are mounted, and can be transferred to a new truck when necessary.
