WorldWide Drilling Resource ® NOVEMBER 2014 45 TEE JAY INTERNATIONAL by Veronica I. “Ronnie” Jones Managing Publisher When you speak of “international”, you are really speaking of TEE JAY INTERNATIONAL. Size doesn’t matter when it comes to the service the great folks at this company provide. As I was speaking to Tom Dinn about this article, I sure learned a lot about his and its history. I’d like to share some of it here for you. Scott Mygatt, Tom’s grandfather formed Lesco Oil Company in the late 1800s and then Lester, joined by his son and Tom Dinn, Sr. (Tom’s father) in approximately 1915. From that date to 1935, when Tom, Jr. was born, his father was a zone manager for the Ohio Oil Company. This lead to T.J. Dinn & Son, Pyramid Oil, Dinn Oil Co., and Tee Jay International. So you can readily feel the great history and knowledge in this company from the get-go. It was just a natural progression into the bit industry since everything they did was related to oil. As time went on, Tee Jay began its international pursuit, and continues it to this day. As one of his very valued customers from Australia, Mel Bartlett (pictured here on his rig), told me in a recent e-mail, “Many years ago we picked up a ... [publication] at a drillers convention in Kuala Lumpur. This is how we first made contact with Tom Dinn (Tee Jay International).” This began their long-standing relationship. Mel, along with his wife Judy and Tee Jay International Inc. Photo by W. C. “Doc” Faison 2003. son Barry, runs the water supply and drilling business known as Portland Water Supply Engineers, drilling water bores and installing p u m p i n g equipment mainly for the rural sector, operating a n i c e l y - maintained M i d w a y Model 10MS kely drive rotary drill rig mount- ed on an all Cumm i n s - p o w e r e d International tandem-drive truck to drill the water bores. Collectively, Mel and Barry have drilled bores and installed pumps for over 88 years in this part of the world [down under]. Drilling in Australia looks much like drilling in thewestern states of the United S t a t e s ; dry, bar- ren-look- ing areas that really need fresh water. That is exactly what Mel and his family do best; but he doesn’t stop at that, as seen here, Mel goes for the big jobs too. This photo depicts them drilling for footings for Foot Bridge, Moyne River. The Bartlett family would not settle for anything but the best wi th thei r d r i l l i n g projects. This completed job says it all: QUALITY. NONE OF THIS is possible with- out TOP-QUALITY BITS. That is why Mel buys directly from TEE JAY INTERNATIONAL. Here are just a couple of the deliveries he gets consistently from West Frankfort, Ilinois, the home of TEE JAY INTERNATIONAL. No lightweights here! Tom Dinn wants you to know about his terrific service. Maybe you have noticed his most recent advertisement? (Opposite this article.) “Money-Back Guarantee. When you buy a bit here, you must be satisfied ~ or don’t run it. Simply return it!” Keep your eye on TEE JAY INTERNATIONAL, Inc., there are great things coming... Sunup to sunset and beyond ~ a drilling contractor’s job is never done!
