20 APRIL 2015 WorldWide Drilling Resource ® The “Idiots” Corner by “Billy Bob Smith” This month, I thought I would share one of life’s biggest idiots - the U.S. Government. There are literally thousands of really stupid laws on the books in every state, and the federal government. Some are so ridiculous I couldn’t finish reading them. In Massachusetts, all children in day care centers are mandated by state law to brush their teeth after lunch. In fact, the state even provides the fluoride toothpaste for the children. In Lake Elmo, Minnesota, farmers can be fined $1000 and put in jail for 90 days for selling pumpkins or Christmas trees that were grown outside city limits. In November, the federal govern- ment called for the “strictest possible” utility regulation of the Internet. On February 26, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) implemented that presidential directive. The FCC will subject the Internet to Title II telephone utility regulations, which would be a repudiation of decades of successful bipartisan policy consen- sus that Internet packet data transmis- sions not be subjected to 1934 telephone monopoly network regulations. How about the so-called “Dust” reg- ulation? The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is considering a crack- down on farm dust. The EPA proposes to regulate dust as a pollutant. So dust from combines, dirt roads, or animals kicking up dust would be regulated. Truly, a stupid EPA regulation which is unen- forceable unless they hire and locate an agent on every farm in America. Federal regulations limit the num- ber of transactions allowed on savings accounts during a 12-month period, and we are required to monitor your account to ensure it does not exceed the man- dated number of transactions. According to the regulations, you can make un- limited deposits or withdrawals to your account in person, by mail, or automat- ed teller; but by law, you are limited to not more than six pre-authorized, auto- matic, online, or telephone transfers or withdrawals per month. Here’s some more just for fun: Impatient Drivers: I’m last in a line of eight cars behind a school bus on a hilly, two-lane road. I don’t mind since we’re going the speed limit, but obvi- ously not for several others! Just before another hill, three cars jump out of line to pass - then an oncoming car shows up on the hill. Hello people - our future is on that bus!! Adapted from local paper: Over breakfast, a grandmother proceeds to guilt-trip her four-year-old granddaughter by saying, “We’re getting together with Grandma this weekend, but you’re not coming, which is a shame because Grandma will be dead soon.” A couple is enjoying lunch at a restaurant on the beach. A lady at the table beside them begins changing a baby’s diaper right there at her seat, with the bathroom in clear view. Billy Bob Contact him via e-mail at michele@ worldwidedrillingresource.com
