36 AUGUST 2015 Kallman Introduces IFT Modern Mining by Mary Lynn Mixson, Representative, WorldWide Drilling Resource ® WorldWide Drilling Resource ® hit the ground running for the EXPONOR Chile 2015 mining event, held May 11-15 in Antofagasta, Chile. WWDR Production/Webmaster Marcel Schimpf and I began covering the expo at the U.S. International Pavilion where 78 companies from the United States displayed exhibits. Products and services were showcased for the mining industry. Big-name companies representing technologies and products including Rockmore International, Inc., Dynapower Company, LLC, and Fugro. On May 11, Kallman Worldwide, organizer of the U.S. International Pavilion, hosted the VIP U.S. Pavilion Reception. Chief Executive Officer Tom Kallman introduced U.S. Ambassador to Chile Michael A. Hammer and Minister of Mining Ms. Aurora Williams from the Republic of Chile, as well as several other digni- taries. During his presentation, Kallman announced a new venture “IFT” Modern Mining 2016. In cooperation with entities including the Ministry of Mining, Codelco, and SONAMI, Kallman Worldwide has identified core issues IFT Mining 2016 will address in the realm of command and con- trol systems, deep drilling, tunnel boring, robotics, and energy efficiency to name a few. In an interview prior to the reception, Kallman said after much forethought and due diligence, Kallman International began helping organize yet another expo with companies which industry. “We have created IFT Modern Mining 2016, an event set for April 2016, in Santiago, Chile.” Mr. Kallman explained to the onlookers at the reception, “Executive managers of mines through- out Latin America face daunting challenges and choices as they adapt to changing economic, envi- ronmental, and technological conditions impacting their industry. IFT Modern Mining 2016 offers regional top-tier mining executives an opportunity to meet, compare notes, and learn best practices from leading global experts who will present a range of approaches and perspectives, providing attendees valuable guidance as they plan for the future.” Later during the reception, Ricardo Ortega, president of Kallman Latin America told me, “This expo probably brings in a couple of million dollars, while Santiago brings in close to $15 million. We encourage everyone to come to Chile! Chile is a good, safe place with a unique coast. It is a nice country and everyone is very welcome to come here.” He went on to say tourists will find Chile has a low entry and as of six months ago, free VISA.
