44 FEBRUARY 2015 WorldWide Drilling Resource ® Colombian Well Reaches New Depths Adapted from Information by the National Hydrocarbon Agency and THX Energy The National Hydrocarbon Agency (ANH) announced the Plato-Magdalena well in the region of New Granada in Colombia has reached a depth of 18,300 feet. The ANH-Plato 1-XP is the second stratigraphic well drilling project in the area, and it will be key to validating future exploratory opportunities in the Lower Magdalena Valley, one of the least ex- plored basins of Colombia. The first stratigraphic well was the ANH Earth High 2-XP which was drilled to a depth of 8711 feet. The goal for the ANH Plato 1-XP well is 21,000. The pur- pose of these wells is to study the char- acteristics and composition of the subsoil in the area. THX Energy is managing the project in which a total of 1200 feet of core sam- ples will be taken in four of the five stages. The core samples will be sent to the National Core Repository which will con- duct tests and determine what lies be- neath the surface. Carlos Arturo Espinosa with THX Energy said, "This project will allow the government to redesign the geological map in the north, making it the most important in the years 2014 and 2015.” This is the first time a stratigraphic well of this depth has been achieved in the area. Detailed studies and research in the pursuit of new hydrocarbon resources are expected. The success of this exploration drilling project is due to the use of an oil-based drilling fluid to achieve high performance in the drilling process. In an effort to avoid polluting local water sources and other environmental conse- quences, the project is reusing the indus- trial water for the process. According to Espinosa, "The compa- ny has made a great effort to give the country the highest engineering stan- dards in order to meet all the objectives for this drilling project, which is very important for the development of the hydrocarbon industry in Colombia." Pozo Colombiano Alcanza Nuevas Profundidades Adaptado de la Información por la Agencia Nacional de Hidrocarburos y THX Energy LaAgencia Nacional de Hidrocarburos (ANH) anunció que el pozo Plato- Magdalena en la región de la Nueva Granada en Colombia ha alcanzado una profundidad de 18.300 pies. El ANH-Plato 1-XP es el segundo proyecto de per- foración de pozo estratigráfico en la zona, y será clave para la validación de futuras oportunidades exploratorias en la parte baja del Valle de Magdalena, una de las cuencas menos exploradas de Colombia. El primer pozo estratigráfico fue la ANH Earth High 2-XP que fue perforado a una profundidad de 8.711 pies. La meta para ANH Platón 1-XP es de 21.000. El propósito de estos pozos es estudiar las características y composición del sub- suelo en la zona. THX Energy está manejando el proyecto en el que se obtendrá un total de 1.200 pies de muestras de núcleos en cuatro de las cinco etapas. Las muestras de núcleos serán enviados a la Litoteca Nacional donde se llevarán a cabo las pruebas para determinar qué hay debajo de la superficie. Carlos Arturo Espinosa con THX Energy dijo: "Este proyecto permitirá al gobierno rediseñar el mapa geológico en el norte, haciéndolo el más importante en los años 2014 y 2015." Esta es la primera vez que se logra un pozo estra- tigráfico de esta profundidad en la zona. Se espera investigación y estudios deta- llados en la búsqueda de nuevos recur- sos de hidrocarburos. El éxito de este proyecto de per- foración de exploración es debido al uso de un liquido de perforación a base de aceite para lograr un alto rendimiento en el proceso de perforación. En un esfuerzo para no contaminar las fuentes de agua locales y otras consecuencias ambien- tales, el proyecto está reutilizando agua industrial para el proceso. Según Espinosa, "La compañía ha hecho un gran esfuerzo para darle al país de los más altos estándares de ingeniería con el fin de cumplir todos los objetivos de este proyecto de perforación, lo cual es muy importante para el desarrollo de la industria de hidrocarburos en Colombia."
