New 8 TX Automatic Transmission Adapted from Information Provided by ZF Friedrichshafen AG Pumping systems for oil and gas production must provide constant pump- ing capacity. Unintended speed fluctu- ations can destabilize both intake volume and delivery pressure, presenting a risk to the entire drill hole. The new 8 TX is customized for consistently smooth operation with 2600 horsepower. It offers eight gears and harmonious gear transitions, as well as a high spread of gear ratios. This minimizes com- ponent st ress and wear, and most important- ly, ensures a pre- cise control of the pumping sta- tion. Due to state-of-the-art communi- cation and modular programming pos- sibilities, the ZF transmission does not require a torque converter lock-up clutch. Trouble-free continuous operation is ensured by a flexible coupling with the latest damping technology which pre- vents the transfer of engine vibrations. The 8 TX also dissipates less heat. ZF integrated complete control electronics directly into the transmission. Additional optimizations such as an aluminum clutch housing make the 8 TX the lightest transmission currently available in its class. It weighs only 2976 pounds in dry conditions, includ- ing the clutch, and is compact with a length of approximately 59 inches and a height of 33 inches. Because of its three-point linkage, the 8 TX can be moved to the requested position easily and precisely. The 8 TX was a topic of discussion at the 2014 Offshore Technology Conference in Houston, Texas.
