Oil/Water Exploration by Harold White I went to the National Ground Water Association convention in Las Vegas, Nevada. There are always a lot of peo- ple from different places. It is a great place to get a worldwide idea of the ways and thoughts of people. I like to talk to them because they are very inter- esting and knowledgeable about the water well drilling and related industries. The subject of this worldwide get- together was “Water and its Importance”; and about different water problems, chemicals, and sanitation. There were talks about the lack of water in some areas, or the water level dropping in some drought-stricken areas, as much as 100 feet or more. Like the young lady from Fresno, California, was talk- ing about in her speech about her job, the water problems of the Fresno water supply wells. She was a very good speak- er and I was impressed. We left Las Vegas, and it took two days to get home. It took until noon just to get out of our room, then an hour to get past the casinos, nightclubs, other sites, and attractions. Then we made it to a place called Area 51 - about a crashed spaceship and related stuff. We also stopped at a place just short of Fallon, Nevada, and stayed the night at a motel called “El Capitan”. We drove the rest of the way home to the Eugene, Oregon area. The trip is 900 miles of interesting scenery. We are home now, and have drilled one well about 15 feet from a dry well. It made a good well with plenty of water. Then we moved a mile or so away to drill another well. On this well, we had to cross a homemade bridge over a creek. They said the bridge was strong and there would be no problems. Loaded gravel and logging trucks had been across with no problems. Wrong - big problem! As I went across, I could feel it sinking, so I sped up and got across. I parked the drill and went back to look at the damage. It had a sag and a separation in it - a full-length crack. It looked like it was going to fall in the creek about ten feet down. We drilled the well, which was a good one with plenty of water, then had to go cross that bridge again. Luckily, we made it over.
