Growing up, thug didn’t pertain to a color of a person’s skin - just that they were thuggish, always wanting to pick a fight. But some words do become offen- sive to me for the sake of others. One such word I read in an industry maga- zine was written by a purported to be an “editor”. It wasn’t so much the word, but the intent of the person who was using it. Had that person given it much thought, it would have been obvious more people in the “ghetto” have access to the internet than people living outside that area. They aren’t deprived of those material things, it’s the compassion and under- standing of others they are deprived of. I do hope that person finds a copy of this magazine and thinks hard before printing such words. And that truly is... Ronnie’s Real World! see you on the trail... Ronnie’s Real World WOW! Sometimes I just wonder... What has our g r a mm a t i c a l world become? One of my many jobs is to read as much as I possibly can. After all, knowl- edge is power, right? So, if other publications come with- in reading distance to me, naturally, I pick them up and read. I also watch the news, because, even though it makes me mad most times, knowledge is power. Here ismy question to you thismonth: WORDS ~ DO THEY BOTHER YOU? Black? White? Gypsy? Poor? Rich? Thug? Redskin? Yellowskin? Wop? Spic? Bully? Projects? Notice, I did not use any profanity here as I am quite sure that would cer- tainly offend someone. I grew up with these words. Of course there was no such thing as “politically correct” when I was growing up. But now everything is “politically - NOT correct” . Unbelievable I say. Back in the day (I guess that is my time), I was poor, white, a combination of many ethnicities, and lived on the other side of the tracks. None of this bothered me because I was just thank- ful to be living in the United States of America ~ Home of the FREE and Cosby cont’d from page 11.
