Lifetime Achievement Award is Presented to Patrick Lange, Rowena, TX prepared by Veronica I. “Ronnie” Jones, Managing Publisher WorldWide Drilling Resource ® This is the FIRST of many apprecia- t ion awards f rom this very special manufacturer. As you read this short narrative of Pat’s life, you will see why he was chosen for this great honor. Check out some of his photos as well. They will put pride in your heart and bring a smile to your face. You might remember some of these times. “Mom and Dad were farmers who built their own cable tool rig in 1943 to supplement their farming income. The drought of the ‘50s forced him out of the farming business, and he became a truck driver, but kept drilling water wells on the side. In 1965, he bought his first air rig, and then in 1969 his first pump company, and Lange Drilling Company was formed. I started working after school in the sum- mer of 1969. After graduating from high school in 1970, I went to Dallas to United Electronic Institute and graduat- ed in 1972. I returned home to Rowena and married my high school sweetheart Sharon. We have been happily mar ried for 42 years. I then went to work full time for my dad as a pump installer. In 1976, Bill (one of my brothers) and I bought Lange Drilling from our dad. I remained the pump installer and Bill was the driller until 1980 when we purchased our second water well rig. We remain partners to this day, both operating our rigs and longtime employ- ees are operating the pump company to this day. Although we have no children to pass on our part of the business, Bill has a son who is very active in the drilling company to keep the business running. Over the years, Lange Dr i l l ing Company has developed a friendship and working relationship with the surrounding pump installers who do not have drilling rigs. Whenever their customer needs a well drilled, they notify us and we will drill the well and they will do the pump com- pletion. It is a win-win situation for all of us. Over the years, I have seen a need for ditching and pipeline service in order to totally finish a water well completion. My wife and I purchased a rocksaw, ditcher, and backhoe, and we have installed pipelines - water troughs - poly tanks on weekends in order to complete this service. I received the Texas Ground Water Assoc i at i on Contractor of t h e Y e a r Award in 2010, and am very active in the T e x a s Wa t e r We l l Scholarship Auction annually. I am Past President of the West Texas Chapter; Rowena Lions Club President for six years, and received the Lion of the Year Award in 2014; am a Member of the Rowena Volunteer Fire Department; Member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and Board Member for six years; as wel l as President of RVOS Insurance Lodge 17 for ten years. The nation’s second largest state, Texas covers 268,000 square miles in the American Southwest, and is the home to many proud Americans like Pat, but I bet not many even consider what being a drilling contractor in Texas is all about. How about making sure those cows have water to drink way out there in the middle of nowhere?
