35 WorldWide Drilling Resource ® MARCH 2015 Measure and Calibrate in Extreme Environments Adapted from Information Provided by Ecom Instruments Ecom instruments, a full-service provider in the field of portable explo- sion-protected equipment, along with the wel l-known manufacturer Fluke has developed and produced a compre- hensive product for all measurement and calibration activities in Ex Zone 1/21, Class I, Division 1 and 2/22, Division 2. These rugged de- vices allow common measurements and cal ibrations to be obtained during daily maintenance checks. All devices are avail- able for use world- wide. Cycl ical checks and planned or targeted shutdowns are used to pre- vent cost-intensive stoppages or mal- functions in day-to-day work. Technicians can use devices such as the Fluke 28 ii-Ex to detect any damage to engines and conveyors during procedures. This multimeter is waterproof and dirt resist- ant, and can even survive being dropped from approximately 10 feet. With the device, workers can test sensors, meas- urement equipment, electrical currents, voltages, and resistance while on the move. The Fluke 568-Ex, a modified infrared measurement tool also designed for Ex Zone 1/21, Class I, Division 1 and 2/22, Division 2, was developed to measure the temperature of liquid and hard mate- rial, even from a distance. Whether in the chemical and petro- chemical, oil and gas, mining, energy, or environmental industry, broad appli- cations of the measurement and cali- bration product family are extended across all industry sectors where haz- ardous areas can be found. Using pre- ventive maintenance equipment, tasks can be carried out with increased ease and comfort. Even high-mounted pipelines or liquid materials can be measured precisely. Sensors and transmit- ters can be calibrated within cyclical controls wi t h a s imu l a t i on option, and tested for accuracy and func- tionality.
