Developer of Sonic Drilling Technology Accepts Fourth Award Adapted from Information by Sonic Drill Corporation Canadian engineer, Ray Roussy, recently accepted a fourth award for his development and commercial- ization of sonic drilling technolo- gy. “I’m delighted to be recognized by the International Mining Technology Hall of Fame,” said Roussy, president of Sonic Drill Corporation and Sonic Drilling, Ltd. “This award is one of the outcomes of nearly four decades of research and development.” Roussy also recognized his staff in his award acceptance speech saying, “Abig thank-you to all my employees who traveled the innovation highway with me - no matter where it took us.” Roussy, who holds dozens of patents involving sonic drilling technology, is sole- ly responsible for the successful com- mercialization of it when others failed to make it work. Roussy’s induction into the International Mining Technology Hall of Fame represents another prestigious recognition for his revolutionary technol- ogy since 2008. This latest award was for the exploration category while previous ones were for best new drilling technology, innovation, and a technology award. Today, award-winning sonic drill rigs, patented and built by Sonic Drill Corp., are in use on six continents and in every application imaginable. Sonic drilling tech- nology provides a number of substantial advantages through its incredible speed (3-5 times faster), as well as its ability to core easily through mixed soils without jamming up or requiring a rig switch out. Additionally, only a sonic drill can recov- er a continuous core including boulders, clays, silt, sand, and gravel, and lay it in its stratigraphic sequence - from the sur- face all the way down to 300 feet and beyond.
