New Rig from Atlas Copco at JUBILEE As shown in the WWDR photo above, Atlas Copco showcased the new Diamondback drill rig during the recent South Atlantic JUBILEE event in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. The rig’s bolt-on modular components are a new concept in rig design which allows own- ers to reconfigure their rig in response to changes in market opportunities with- out special kits, makeshift fabrications, or having to purchase another rig. “We’ve all seen in recent years how contractors can find themselves sud- denly needing to expand their drilling repertoire or even switching from one specialty to another. The Diamondback is the only rig on the market that allows owners to do that without intensive after- purchase modifications,” explained Alex Grant, product line manager, deep hole rigs, Atlas Copco Drilling Solutions. Safety enhancements on the new Diamondback rig include hands-free pipe handling and breakout, enlarged operator and helper stands, a table safety cage, and catwalks which meet or exceed industry safety standards.
