The HDD industry battles wear and abrasion issues just like the gas and oil exploration industry. Until now, no one focused on assisting HDD companies in improving abrasion resistance, wear, and extending the life of their drill pipe. Hardface Technologies by Postle, with years of experience protecting gas and oil drill pipe, has come up with a product and process to get longer life out of your HDD pipe. In 2016, Hardface Technologies teamed up with a directional drilling company, Strain Electric Co. out of Michigan, to develop a product and process to increase the life of their HDD Pipe. With drilling conditions in mind, Postle engineers developed a high hardness, crack-free welding procedure using Postalloy ® 2826-SPL to increase the normal life expectancy of the pipe. The product is applied lengthwise on the pipe to provide abrasion resistance at certain high-wear points while not impeding the metallurgical characteristics of the pipe. Testing was performed in all types of geological conditions with great success. The wear-life of the hardfaced drill pipe has increased by five times. Todd Strain, owner of Strain Electric Co. stated, “We have seen significant improvement on the life of our pipe since hardfacing it with Postle Postalloy ® 2826-SPL.” Hardface Technologies by Postle Industries, has been in business since 1969, with one focus, to deliver the highest quality of hardfacing alloys in the industry. Postle Industries has been working in the gas and oil industry since 2002. In 2007, Postle introduced Duraband ® NC the first 100% crack-free hardbanding alloy for maximum wear protection. Duraband ® NC has been classified as the industry’s best and most accredited hardbanding product worldwide. Hardface Technologies also has a wide range of welding alloys to protect starter rods, augers, reamers, boring heads, excavator buckets, and bucket components for the HDD industry, making Hardface Technologies your one-stop shop for wear-related issues.
