Endings and Resolve by Tim Connor Have you ever seen an ending coming? Have you ever wanted an ending, but were too filled with fear, guilt, or uncertainty to bring it to fruition? Have you ever been blindsided by an ending? Ever known an ending was coming, but did all in your power to prevent or avoid it? I could go on with questions like this, but the simple fact is: If something needs to end or is ready to end, all of the actions, behaviors, attempts - even begging - you demonstrate to thwart it will not prevent what is going to or must come to pass. Life constantly gives us endings, each one preparing us for what lies ahead. They are all different and unique - some are painful, some are jubilant. It's the time between an ending and a new beginning, or the space between, which has the biggest potential for helping us realize and consider change, for it is here we will decide how we will define this change and we'll begin to build the framework from which to launch our new beginning. Now, about resolve. Thinking about quitting? A job? Career? Relationship? Project? Anything? Sooner or later, everyone thinks about quitting something. There is, however, a vast difference between quitting and wanting to quit. On the one hand you quit, and on the other you just want to, think about it, but don't. What is resolve? Is it persistence, commitment, dogged determination, or just plain old self-motivation? Don't have the answer, folks. I do know, however, it costs more to fail than to keep on keeping on. There is a point in every relationship, career, project, or goal where our resolve to go on is test- ed. Winners realize they have to break through this barrier before they can enjoy the real fruits of their labor. Quitters, on the other hand, give up at the first sign of resistance or adversity.
