In Memoriam of John Schrack 10/22/1920 ~ 2/5/2018 It was with great sadness we received the notice from Ward and Pat Thompson of the passing of John Schrack at the age of 97 on February 5, 2018. John was the youngest child of Leroy and Lora Dewhirst Schrack. He was born in the family home in Selma, California. After his father was hired as foreman of a large ranch west of Selma, John found the love of his life, Leapha Brown, and they were married November 8, 1941. John was a veteran of the United States Army Air Corps serving during World War II. Upon return home, he had a varied career, ranging from working with C. O. Brose Well Drilling; partner in the Richfield Staton with his brother-in-law Dale; sales manager for Don Buick; and equipment, farm, garden, and golf equipment sales. But, the call of water rang true, and he ventured back to the well drilling business by purchasing C. O. Brose Company, which rapidly became Schack Drilling Company when his son Jim became an equal partner. It is said John’s favorite quote was, “Well Drilling is the only job where you start at the top!” Continuing in the drilling industry, albeit retired by 1990, he became President of both the California and National Water Well Associations (National Ground Water Association). The photos to the right here are of both he and his bride Leapha being the first inductees into the California Groundwater Association Hall of Fame in 2009 by their dear friend Ward Thompson. John was preceded in death by his parents; his brother Donald; sister Dorothy; his son Donald; brother-in-law Dale Henderson; and his beloved dog Miracle. He is survived by his wife of 76 years, Leapha; his sister Marian Henderson; son Jim (Linda); daughter-in-law Donna; four grandchildren; two great- grandchildren; two nieces; one nephew; as well as Happy, his loving dog. All of us at WorldWide Drilling Resource ® send our sincerest sympathies to John’s family and friends worldwide. Lest we forget... A graveside service was held at Selma Floral Avenue Cemetery.
