The “Idiots” Corner by “Billy Bob Smith” I know the above is a stupid quote, but I couldn’t resist it considering the following. Think about it. Before long, we will never have to leave our houses or apartments to buy anything or get any personal services. And I’m not talking about the local heating and air conditioning guy, plumber, or AAA coming to your house to fix stuff. Don’t believe me? You can now have the following delivered to your homes (just to mention a very few things): food/meals, groceries, medications, pet food, mail, clothes, furniture, new or used car. And also, you can get the following services at your home: haircuts, work from home, manicures and pedicures, exercise routines, massages, coaching/counselling services. You can even get medical advice, tests, and treatments without leaving your kitchen. What’s your point Billy Bob - what’s wrong with home delivery stuff? Think about it - before long, you may even be able to get: your personal funeral services . . . your minister delivering communion . . . your doctor performing surgeries . . . your eye exams, blood tests, and court proceedings for any number of situations - at home. So before you know it, we will never have to leave our houses for any reason. We will be living like aliens in a strange new world without nurturing human relationships, new friendships, new experiences, and new and exciting things to try and do. For some people, I’m sure this sounds exciting and even positive. For me, well, it’s just stupid to think we can get and do everything we will ever need without taking off our pajamas. There is something good about standing in line to check out at a store. There is something positive about interacting with other people while shopping. Now, if it’s just about getting the stuff or saving time, I get it; but consider for a minute - where is the fun in never leaving home? Unless you’re a TV junkie, then you can finally spend all day on the couch and get everything you need. Trust me - if that’s your lifestyle - you will sooner or later need the emergency medical services of an ambulance at your house! Have a wonderful holiday season and enjoy all the drones flying over your house.
