Reduce Explosives Usage with Technology Adapted from a Press Release by Orica Orica, one of the largest manufacturers of commercial explosives and blasting systems, announced its next genera- tion BlastIQ™ digital blast optimization platform. This is the latest version of Orica’s digital platform which has been designed to optimize blasting outcomes by combin- ing data with insights from digitally connected technologies across the drill and blast process. Solutions enabled by BlastIQ™ can deliver predictable and sustainable improve- ments to reduce the overall cost of drill and blast operations, improve productivity and safety, and facilitate regulatory com- pliance. Angus Melbourne, Orica chief commercial officer said, “The downstream impact of variable and poorly controlled blast outcomes today can impact as much as 80% of the Total Mine Processing Costs, this presents a significant opportunity for the industry. The new BlastIQ™ Platform enhances blast performance and outcomes for customers by seamlessly connecting data under a single platform. Soon, the platform will link geoscientific, blast modeling, and design data with measured field operations data, optimized blast delivery, and advanced learning for continuous improvement.” The enhanced technologies found in the next generation BlastIQ™ enables mine managers and engineers to make better decisions and increase control over blasting results in mining and quarrying operations. One facet of the suite is Orica’s SHOTPlus™ 3-D design and modeling software. This tool helps operators manage both simple and complex blast designs and initiation sequences. Angelo Labriola, global digital product manager for Orica explains, “Our SHOTPlus™ design tool improves productivity by integrating seamlessly with the BlastIQ™ Platform. This allows blast loading instructions and rules to be communicated in near real-time to field operations, ensuring the right explosive type and quantity is used in the right place and subsequently initiated at the right time, every time. Improved in-field blast quality control and assurance is achieved using the new BlastIQ™ Mobile device, enabling the effi- cient capture of auditable data direct from the bench. Blasthole condition data is captured with the BlastIQ™ Mobile device . . . empowering rapid decision making and improved operational effi- ciencies.” In addition to the new technologies, functional ity, and enhanced user experience in the next generation BlastIQ™ Platform, a comprehensive training, support, and customer suc- cess program has also been introduced. The program is aimed at customizing each BlastIQ™ implementation to each customer’s needs. This leads to quicker implementa- tion and more importantly, maximizes the ability to increase productivity and reduce costs. The new platform can be easily implemented into existing operational sys- tems and processes. The BlastIQ™ Blast Control solution is being used in operat ions around the world to improve blast qual i ty control through autonomous and seamless data transfer and insights, resulting in the elimina- tion of rework, and the reduction of excess drilling and explosives consump- tion. 26 FEBRUARY 2019 WorldWide Drilling Resource ® Fredericksburg Expo & Conference Center Fredericksburg, Virginia Office: (804) 387-8395 Info@VAWaterWellAssociation.org www.VAWaterWellAssociation.org Virginia Water Well Association 2019 Winter Conference February 20-21, 2019 Conference Schedule Tuesday, 19th Exhibitor Set-Up Wednesday, 20th Exhibitor Set-Up, Education Sessions, Exhibits, Cash Bar, Dinner Banquet, Silent Auction, Celeste Kellogg Concert Thursday, 21st Breakfast & General Meeting, Exhibits, Educational Sessions New Venue!
